L-W East Senior is State Wrestling Champ 2 Years Running

Kyle Langenderfer won the state championship for the second time on Feb. 16.

Lincoln-Way East High School senior Kyle Langenderfer took the Class 3A 152-pound class state wrestling championship on Feb. 16, according to the Chicago Tribune.

This is his second year in a row receiving the state title. Langenderfer, who will wrestle at the University of Illinois next year, won all of his 42 matches this season.

In order to take the title, Langenderfer defeated Brian Murphy, of Glenbard North High School, 6-5.

“Brian is a phenomenal wrestler,” Langenderfer told the Chicago Tribune. “It was fun to compete against him. It was a battle of titans in a way. I tried not to get flustered, even when I got taken down for the first time this season. I gritted it out.”
