Dad, Nephew Her Biggest Fans: Allen’s Admirers Come In All Ages and Sizes

Home opener proves to be a good time to see the Lincoln-Way East volleyball team in action. Every girl on the Griffins' on the roster received playing time.

Lincoln-Way East senior middle blocker Katie Allen recently committed to Drake University.

That means she’ll be playing home games next season in Des Moines, Iowa. It also probably means her father, Dave Allen, will be spending a lot of time driving west on I-80.

The elder Allen was in the stands during Thursday’s home-opening volleyball victory over Mt. Assisi. While Allen spent a good deal of time watching his daughter and the rest of the Griffins dispose of the Eagles in two games, he also was busy chasing after little spiky-haired 2-year-old Jameson Simanis, who was cheering on his Aunt Katie.

“I don’t miss any games at all,” Dave Allen said. “It doesn’t matter if the game is in Wilmington, here or wherever, we plan on seeing them all.”

Simanis didn’t have anything in particular to say about his 6-foot-3 aunt, though he likely was pleased with her performance. Of course, one question remained unanswered: Which did he enjoy more, her effort on the court or the Kit Kat bar from the concession stand?
