Brown Wins Two Individual Events, Leads L-W East Charge to Second-Place Finish in Girls State Track Meet

Aaliyah Brown's anchor leg pulled L-W East through in the 4x100 relay event at Class 3A girls state track and field meet. Later, she bolted to victories in the 100- and 200-meter dash events and helped the Griffins place third in the 4x400 relay.

She can run down anyone in front her. Her work in the sprint events and relays helped Lincoln-Way East power to a second-place finish in the Class 3A girls state track and field meet on Saturday at O'Brien Stadium in Charleston.

The Griffins totaled 37 points. East St. Louis won the team title with 46 points.

Brown's strong anchor leg pulled Lincoln-Way East through to a first-place finish in the 4x100 relay event. The Griffins' team of Meghan Maris, Maria Perozzi, Dana O'Grady and Brown was clocked in 47.0 seconds.

Evanston placed second with a time of 47.37.

Brown followed up with a victories in the 100- and 200-meter dash events. She was clocked in 11.46 in the 100 and 24.0 in the 200.

And she concluded an electrifying day by running the anchor leg on the Griffins' third-place finishing 4x400 relay. Brown teamed with Maris, O'Grady and Perozzi for a time of 3:51.48 in the meet's last event.
