Brown, L-W East Off and Running

Sophomore Aaliyah Brown qualified first in two individual events and helped Lincoln-Way East advance two relays during preliminary competition in the Class 3A girls state track and field meet.

Everything the Lincoln-Way East girls track and field team has worked for this spring will culminate today in the Class 3A state finals at O’Brien Stadium on the Eastern Illinois University campus in Charleston. The Griffins put themselves in the running to bring home a state trophy during preliminary competition on Friday.

Sophomore sprint sensation Aaliyah Brown qualified first in the 100-meter dash (11.44) and first in the 200-meter dash (24.07). She also ran legs on East's two advancing relay teams. The Griffins' team of Meghan Maris, Maria Perozzi, Dana O'Grady and Brown turned in the top time in the 4x100 at 46.94.

Later in the 4x400, the same four girls qualified with the third-fastest time (3:52.31). The Griffins' two other individual qualifiers, Nicole Nepote (800) and Sarah Saffran (pole vault), came up short in their bids to reach the finals.

L-W East's Tom Rotondi Dominates 1,600

Lincoln-Way East's Tom Rotondi won the 1,600 with a time of 4:27.23 during Thursday's Class 3A Bloom Sectional. He is the lone boys track and field athlete from the area to advance to next weekend's state finals.

L-W North Comes Alive in Second Half

The way the first half of Tuesday's semifinal match against Bloom was going, it wasn't a done deal that Lincoln-Way North would be playing for a girls regional soccer title on Friday. But the Phoenix erupted after a scoreless first half and scored four unanswered goals in the final 40 minutes to earn a date with Andrew. L-W North Softball Gets Closer to No. 20

The Lincoln-Way North softball team defeated a rival and then blasted a conference opponent to push its record to 19-9. The Phoenix took care of Lincoln-Way West behind a one-hitter from Bridget Stroh. She fanned four. Jill Galich went 2-for-3 with a couple RBIs in the victory. In a less dramatic game on Thursday, the Phoenix cruised past Thornton 10-0. Shannon O'Donnell scored four times and drove in a pair of runs, while Leann Buzzard had some fun too, smacking a couple base hits and driving in two runs.

Baseball: Griffins Struggling

It's been a rough week for the Lincoln-Way East baseball team, which finally got some pitching and defense on Thursday but couldn't do enough with the bats to knock off Lockport. The Griffins were shutout 10-0 by Lockport on Tuesday, received a beating at the hands of Lyons 13-3 on Wednesday and then lost a tight, 3-1 contest to Lockport on Thursday.

L-W East Falls To L-W Central, But Shares Boys Volleyball Title

It wasn't all good news on Wednesday, but the news at the end of the night ended up bring pretty good, after all. Lincoln-Way East dropped a 25-19, 25-19 decision to Lincoln-Way Central in boys volleyball, but the Griffins still earned a share of the Southwest Suburban Blue conference title. Girls Soccer: Tough Season Ends for Griffins

The Lincoln-Way East girls soccer team only collected victories against Joliet Central, Peotone, Plainfield Central and Thornwood this spring in compiling a 4-14-2 mark. The team’s season came to an end on Wednesday in the IHSA Class 4A playoffs with a 7-3 loss to Mother McAuley.
