Baseball: L-Way North Sings Fifth-Inning Blues

Plainfield North 9, Lincoln-Way North 4. Tigers send 13 batters to the plate and score seven runs in the fifth inning to pull away.

Touching All the Bases: Lincoln-Way North rallied from a 2-0 deficit, scoring three times in the bottom of the third inning and adding another run in the bottom of the fourth to take a 4-2 lead. But that was all washed away in the top of the fifth as Plainfield North knocked out Phoenix starting pitcher Dominic Paolella and batted around en route to notching a 9-4 victory on Saturday.

Patch’s MVP: Plainfield North's Evan Whaley. He led off the third inning, was hit by a pitch and scored. More significantly, though, he started the top of the fifth with a single to start a seven-run rally.

Plainfield North Leaders: Whaley scored two runs. Caleb Kissel went 2-for-4, Brian Evak was 2-for-5 with a triple, Sean Renzi was 2-for-3 with a double and two walks.
