Athlete of Week: Glove Fits L-Way North’s Collins
Phoenix standout Brandon Collins sparkles defensively at first base and tears the cover off the ball, too.
Spending hours on the hardwood as a member of the basketball team could’ve led to a slow start for senior first baseman Brandon Collins. Instead, Collins already appears in mid-season form on the baseball diamond.
Through Saturday, Collins was 5-for-14 at the plate. Even in the team’s first loss of the season, a 9-6 decision to , he had the biggest offensive highlights with two triples. He’s hitting .357 on the season with a slugging percentage that checks in near the .500 mark.
And, as a result of his torrid start, Collins is featured as the Patch Athlete of the Week.

“A quiet leader for our team,” Lincoln-Way North coach Joe Skarbek said.
Skarbek also considers Collins to be one of the best defensive first basemen in the state.
