Board Honors SHJR Boys Baseball Team

The Summit Hill School District 161 Board congratulated the boys baseball team at the board's Oct. 12 meeting. The Spartans earned second place in the Class 3A Illinois Elementary School Association state tournament in East Peoria, falling to Germantown Hills in the final round, 4-2.

SHJR Symphonic Band Preps for Fall, Veterans Day Concerts

Two performances are on tap in the next few weeks for the Summit Hill Junior High Symphonic Band. On Tuesday, Oct. 25, the band will participate in the 26th annual district-wide Fall Music Concert at 7 p.m. at . The concert will feature most of the bands and choirs in D161, and the Advanced Strings Band, made up of and Summit Junior High students, will perform at the event for the first time. This year's theme is believing in yourself and having hope for the future. 

On Thursday, Nov. 10, the band will present its fourth annual Veterans' Day program at 5:30 pm. in the Summit Hill cafetorium. Patriotic music will be performed, as well as tributes to band family veterans, including a slide show and stories contributed by band families. Veterans from the community are welcome to attend.
