Frankfort General Store to Shutter June 29

The store's current owners—which took it over in 2009—will close it at the end of the month.

A familiar Frankfort storefront will soon close permanently.

The Frankfort General Store, 119 Kansas St., will shutter June 29, as stated by the owner. Sister shop Glory Bee will remain open.

The Frankfort General Store has been a staple in historic Frankfort for more than 30 years with a number of different owners. Jack & Carole Wilger, the current proprietors, purchased the shop in March of 2009. The shop features old-fashioned candy, gourmet foods, and specialty gifts not found easily elsewhere, according to the website.

Merchandise is now discounted up to 75 percent off and owners will offer a thank you gift with purchase.

"Stop in and see us before the doors close for the final time, and thank you for your patronage!" the announcement reads.

"We thank our family, friends and customers who have supported us over the years," Carole Wilger said in an email statement. "Jack & I look forward to simplifying our life and spending more time with our family. We hope everyone will take advantage of greatly discounted merchandise and continue to shop our other store, Glory Bee."
