Cub Scout Pack 237 - Lean, Mean, Racing Machines

Cub Scout Pack 237 - Create Lean, Mean, Racing Machines

Sunday, January 27th the Frankfort Square Park District hosted this years Cub Scout Pinewood Derby where blocks of wood were turned into lean, mean racing machines. Scouts lined up the track to watch their cars race run down a track that is powered by gravity. Win or lose, they took pride knowing that they've done their best. Not only did the scouts race but moms, dads and siblings also had their own "Outlaw" category where they could race their own pinewood creations.

No one leaves empty handed. Each boy was awarded a cerficate for their acheivements and the official Pinewood Derby patch to be proudly displayed on their vest. The scouts also hosted their annual cake/sweet treat auction. Cakes were donated by families as well as local businesses. Walt's and OMG It's Gluten Free located in Frankfort alongside of Brookhaven in Mokena and Baker's Square in Orland Park each donated fabulous and tasty treats to add to the auction that raised close to $200 for the pack.

The Pinewood Derby is just one example of how scouts learn craft skills, the rules of fair play, and good sportsmanship—things the boys will remember their whole life.
