Summit Hill Band Students Star in All-Star Festival

A group of student-musicians from Summit Hill District 161 put on a show Jan. 18.

On Saturday, Jan. 18, 21 talented seventh and eighth grade members of the Summit Hill Junior High Symphonic Band participated in the 5th annual Lincoln-Way Area All Star Band Festival, hosted this year by Mokena JHS.

Top musicians from all six junior highs (Hickory Creek, Liberty, Manhattan, Martino, Mokena and Summit Hill) that feed into all four Lincoln-Way high schools combined together for a day of rehearsals, culminating with a performance for the public.

Each of their four pieces was conducted by a different Lincoln-Way high school band director: Eric Wellman (LWC), Justin Barnish (LWN), Chris Mroczek (LWE) and Cary Ruklic (LWW). In addition, the band directors involved with each school combined to perform as part of the faculty jazz ensemble to perform for the students and their families. Summit Hill Junior high serves the communities of Mokena, Tinley Park and Frankfort.
