LWHSD210 Updates Network Wireless Capabilities
More bandwidth and switches are added to LWHSD210 schools for Internet classroom instruction and wireless connections.
The Lincoln-Way High School Board of Education was updated on the district's latest technology improvements during an Aug. 22 meeting at L-W North High School.
More bandwidth and switches were added to LWHSD210 schools for Internet classroom instruction and wireless connections. The price tag for the improvements is about $750,000, which will be paid for over a five-year period, said Ron Sawin, LWHSD210 assistant superintendent.
The technology improvement committee told the board in a report that the district's bandwidth has been enhanced from 37 Mega bits to 550 Mega bits. The boost in bandwidth allows staff to "utilize resources from the Internet for instruction with very little delay," said Stacy Holland, LWHSD210 community relations director.

New network switches were installed prior to the start of school, she said. With these updates, there is increased bandwidth district-wide for both wired and wireless devices. The district's wireless network was completed on Aug. 14. The updates complete a district goal to provide a wireless link to the network and the Internet. Students and staff can now access the network and Internet on their personal devices, according to Holland.
"As part of the new wireless network, the district was able to open a Guest Network. This will allow all "guests" to Lincoln-Way the opportunity to access the Internet on their personal devices while on Lincoln-Way property."
