L-Way East Marching Griffins to Unveil Portion of 2013 Field Show

The Lincoln-Way East Marching Griffins are hosting a community concert where they will perform a portion of their 2013 field show.

The Lincoln-Way East Marching Griffins are practicing for a community concert to unveil a portion of their 2013 field show.

The 30-to-40-minute performance is scheduled to begin at 7 p.m. at LWE Stadium, 201 Colorado Ave. in Frankfort.

Students have been practicing nearly every day to prepare for the 2013 marching season, learning new music, refining their marching steps and building endurance for the multiple parades, half-time shows and competitive field shows that they plan to participate in this school year.

The community concert is the Marching Griffins' special “thank you” to the neighbors who have listened patiently to the sound of horns, rhythmic timekeepers and bass drums, according to a press release.

“Our marching experience at Lincoln-Way East is such a wonderfully supported endeavor that includes a combination of parent and community efforts that we could not exist without. Our students are exceptional on their own but because of the people in our neighborhoods and the support of our school district and our dedicated music boosters, our program has been allowed to flourish in this marching activity,” stated Bert Johnson, band director and music department chair.

This year’s competitive show is “City of One Hundred Spires.” The music is an adaptation of Karel Husa’s Pulitzer Prize band work entitled, “Music for Prague.”

“Music for Prague is a musical composition that emulates the composer Karel Husa’s emotional response to the war in the Czech Republic in the 1960’s. This competitive marching show concept is a visual representation of an interpretation of this work by conceptual designer Michael Lentz with whom we have partnered with the past four seasons at LW East,” stated Johnson.
