The Phi Delta Kappa scholarship committee evaluates applicants on their academic accomplishments, contributions, and service to their school and community, and a letter of recommendation is required. In addition, each applicant had to respond to the essay prompt: “You have decided as a goal you want to become a teacher. Please share your vision as to what that means to you and how you see yourself accomplishing this goal.”

“I’m really excited to be studying Music Education and Spanish at Elmhurst College as a Presidential Music Scholarship winner,” stated Kailie.

She continued, “I’ve had so many amazing music teachers who have influenced me and helped me develop my passion for music and sharing it with others. They’re the ones who inspired me to pursue music education, so it really meant a lot to me that I also received the Prospective Educators scholarship from Phi Delta Kappa.”

At Lincoln-Way East Kailie enjoyed participating as a member of Madrigal Singer, Key Club, Spring Musical, Jazz Band, and Blue Notes.

She also was a member of the National Honor Society, Mu Alpha Theta, Spanish Honor Society, and the Tri-M Music Honor Society. Kailie was ranked academically 16 out of 526 in her class.
