L-W East Econ Teacher to be Honored at Awards Luncheon

Wendy Hegarty will be one of almost 30 state educators honored at a special event Thursday at the Governor's Mansion.

A Lincoln-Way East High School teacher is one of 29 state educators being recognized by for their outstanding work with an awards luncheon at the Governor's Mansion on Thursday, June 21, an Illinois State Board of Education press release stated.

Economics teacher Wendy Hegarty has been named a Star in the Classroom by the Illinois Council for Economic Education. . Along with teaching economics, Hegarty also is L-W East's girls track and cross country coach.

“These are teachers who go above and beyond expectations on a daily basis,” State Superintendent of Education Christopher A. Koch said in the release. “They are professionals who set a high bar for themselves and work with the best interest of their students in mind at all times. We join their colleagues and local communities in recognizing them for their excellent skills and dedication.”

The event—the second annual Exemplary Teacher Recognition Award Luncheon—is organized by the state board of education, the Illinois Education Association and the Illinois Federation of Teachers.
