Girls Volleyball: L-W East Captures Tourney Title

Lincoln-Way East defeated two district rivals en route to winning the championship Saturday at the Lincoln-Way Central girls volleyball tournament.

The Griffins followed the lead of "A" and "B" to gain the "C" they were looking for at the Lincoln-Way Central tournament Friday and Saturday in New Lenox.

Senior middle blocker Katie Allen and senior right-side hitter Lauren Behrens, the A and B, led East to victories over Lincoln-Way North (25-20, 25-22) and Lincoln-Way Central (14-25, 25-14, 25-18) as the Griffins captured the tourney championship for the first time since 2006.

And the "C" for the championship boosted East's record to 26-7 heading into Tuesday's Senior Night matchup vs. Lockport. The Griffins will honor their three seniors--Allen, Behrens and Makayla Weller--in a brief ceremony prior to the match in Frankfort.

Then, East travels to Bolingbrook to conclude regular-season play on Thursday, Oct. 20. The Griffins face Thornton Fractional South at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 25, in the opening round of the IHSA state playoffs. The first-round regional match will be played in Lansing.
