Football: Lincoln-Way North Slips Past Lincoln-Way West

Lincoln-Way North 7, Lincoln-Way West 3: Phoenix capitalize on one of five Warriors turnovers for game's only TD, hold on for Homecoming victory.

Breaking It Down: Lincoln-Way West (3-2, 2-1) gave the ball away time and time again during Friday night's Southwest Suburban Red Conference contest against (3-2, 1-2) in Frankfort.

The Warriors fumbled eight times—losing four—during a game that was played in a steady rain for most of the evening. They also were intercepted once.

Even so, Lincoln-Way West was able to stay within striking distance. Lincoln-Way North scored what proved to be the game-winning touchdown with 11:39 remaining in the second quarter when running back Tre Lewis looked to pass, slipped a bit and ended up running for a 6-yard touchdown.

Lincoln-Way West made it 7-3 on a 34-yard field goal by Cole Lukanus with 5:04 left in the game, but turned the ball over on downs on its final possession with less than two minutes remaining.

Patch's MVP: Lincoln-Way North's defense. The Phoenix, which didn't allow a touchdown, got an interception from Bill Beemsteroer and fumble recoveries from Ryan Negrelli, Alexander Vargas, Bretty Buhe and Jeffrey Edmonds.

Lincoln-Way West Stat Pack: Nick Dangles had 126 yards on 25 carries. Brian Skowronski had three receptions for 42 yards. Kyle Millner completed 6 of 16 passes for 69 yards.

Lincoln-Way North Stat Pack: Jake Dixon had 54 yards on 12 carries and two receptions for 23 yards. Tre Lewis rushed for 49 yards on 11 carries and scored the game's only touchdown.

Quotable I: Lincoln-Way North coach George Czart on keeping the Warriors out of the end zone: "We've been playing pretty decent all year. The problem in the past has been giving up the big play. That was our success today. We didn't give up the the big touchdown pass."

Quotable II: Lincoln-Way West coach Mark Vander Kooi on turning the ball over five times: "We've got to get better, that's all there is to it. If we want to play championship ball, we've got to get better."
