The African-American Soldier in the Civil War
Join us for our Exhibit Opening with MARGARET STOREY, PH.D., Associate Professor of History at DePaul University.
Professor Storey's lecture and discussion will focus on the ways African-American slaves forced the military and, eventually, the politicians and President Lincoln to contend with the question of slavery's role in the war. Also discussed will be the process by which the government came to recruit African-American men as soldiers, the roles played by these soldiers in the army, and the reasons their contributions have been, until lately, largely ignored by the popular narrative of Civil War History.
Registration is required. Sign up online at www.frankfortlibrary.org in the programs and events calendar or call 815-534-6173.
