JJC Jazz Band Spring Concert

The Joliet Junior College Jazz Band will perform its annual Spring Jazz Concert on Friday, May 6, at 7:30 p.m. in the Fine Arts Theatre on the Main Campus, 1215 Houbolt Road in Joliet.

The concert begins with special guest the Plainfield North High School Jazz Band. Then, the JJC Jazz Band, led by Charles Morgan, JJC music coordinator and director of bands, will perform a number of jazz songs and arrangements along with several student solos.

The band will perform, “New to Say,” “Samba De Los Iguanas,” and “Blues at Drury” by Rick Stitzel; “The Preacher” by Horace Silver; “First Time Ever” by Les Hooper; “The Defibrillator” by Adrien Re; “Georgia on my Mind” by Hoagy Carmichael; “How Do I Look in Blue” by Johnny Richards; “Sinful Wicked Lady” by Lad McIntosh; and “I’ve Got You Under My Skin” by Cole Porter.

Student soloists will include Mark Grossi, of Aurora, on alto sax; Nancy Lehman, of Joliet, on tenor saxophone; Janice Murphy, of Orland Park, on piano; James Stegall, of Joliet, on percussion; and Jake Cepela, of Crest Hill, on bass.

Admission is $5 for adults, $4 for senior citizens, non-JJC students, JJC faculty and staff and $2 for JJC students.

The JJC Jazz Band is an instrumental ensemble comprised of students and is open to community members of at least high school age.  There is no audition fee and participants may register for course credit or choose to take part for no credit.  The group meets on Wednesday evenings from 7 to 9:45 p.m. each semester.
