Auditions for JJC Summer Touring Play

The Joliet Junior College Fine Arts Department Theatre will hold auditions for the summer touring theatre production of “The Loathsome Lady, An Arthurian Tale Retold” by Jim and June Jeffries in the Fine Arts Theatre on the Main Campus, 1215 Houbolt Road in Joliet at 3 p.m. and 6 p.m. on May 9.

“The Loathsome Lady, An Arthurian Tale Retold,” is a 45-minute to one-hour play that begins as King Arthur, trying to take a fast buck, is accused of poaching by the Black Knight.  He attacks the king and — even though King Arthur defends himself valiantly with a rubber chicken — defeats him.  In order to keep his kingdom, King Arthur must answer the most difficult riddle ever:  What do women most desire?  A hag from the wood can provide the answer, but only if King Arthur can find a knight to marry the loathsome lady.  Sir Gawain, an impetuous young knight, volunteers to defend the king’s honor before he meets his bride-to-be.  Will Sir Gawain be true to his word?

This year, the tour will be taking place from June 13-17 and will travel to libraries located in Braidwood, Morris, Seneca, Manhattan, Plainfield and Shorewood.

Those interested in auditioning should prepare a short nursery rhyme, preferably memorized, and be prepared to read from the script and participate in some theatre games.
