D161 Principals Switch Schools

Some Summit Hill School District 161 principals will be in new schools next year thanks to some reshuffling announced in a district e-mail Wednesday.

Sent by Supt. Barb Rains, the e-mail, which went to district parents, laid out the following changes (the parentheses denote the principals' previous schools):

• : Kathy Klein () and Chirstine Carey (Frankfort Square)
• : Jason Isdonas (Dr. Julian Rogus Kindergarten)
• : Michael Ruffalo (Dr. Julian Rogus School)

The moves come as district officials continue to adjust to the closing of Mary Drew. At the time, board members and Rains said Klein, Mary Drew's principal, would stay in the district. Another reason for the changes are because of the retirement of Hilda Walker Principal Jan Zevkovich at the end of this school year.

The following is the complete text of the e-mail:

Dear Parents,

As we begin to plan for the next school year, I would like to announce changes in leadership at the K-6 level. The changes were necessitated by the retirement of Ms. Zevkovich and the closing of Mary Drew School.

Please welcome Mrs. Klein and Mrs.Carey as Co-Principals who will be sharing the leadership of Dr. Julian Rogus School beginning this fall. At Frankfort Square School, please welcome Mr. Isdonas as the Principal, and at Walker School, please welcome Mr. Ruffalo as the Principal.

These individuals have conveyed that they look forward to beginning a new chapter in their service in District 161 and eagerly await the opportunity to embrace their new learning communities.

"Meet and Greet" sessions have taken place with school staffs. We are working with SCO leadership teams to develop assemblies next month and open houses this summer to support students and parents as they begin to learn about their new learning community.
