Chelsea Students Create Fundraiser to Help Kids With Cancer

Chelsea Students to Start Fundraiser for Chicago Hospital

Chelsea Intermediate School students are sponsoring a fundraiser at the end of the month to help Children's Memorial Hospital in Chicago.

Hats Off to Cancer! which is being dedicated to the memory of Sean Duggan, a D157-C student who died of cancer, is an initiative that begins Monday, Oct. 31. Here's how students are helping:

  • Third-graders: Collecting new hats for Children's Memorial Hospital patients going through treatment.
  • Fourth-graders: Encouraging students to donate to the hospital.
  • Fifth-graders: Approaching local businesses to help support the effort.

Donations can be mailed or dropped off at Chelsea through Nov. 8. Checks should be made payable to Children’s Memorial Hospital.

Hickory Creek Students Honored for Character

Three Hickory Creek Middle School softball players were recognized for their sportsmanship through the school's “Character Counts” program.

Madison Martino, Hannah Stovall and Madeline Vaughan were nominated by coaches Mitch Stein and Colleen Reiser. Each year, student-athletes sign a contract agreeing to a Tiger Code of Conduct, and qualifying students are honored for outstanding character on the field and in the classroom.
