Auto Students Provide Free Car Checks for Seniors
The annual car inspection event is coordinated by public safety group Frankfort/Mokena TRIAD.
The automotive classes at Lincoln-Way North High School will offer free safety car checks for senior citizens on Nov. 6.
The free car check day is an annual event, hosted by Frankfort/Mokena TRIAD, an organization that unites senior citizens, village police and county police to create a safer community for seniors. Free car check day is one of a few major events the group organizes every year.
“We’re really excited about it,” said Frankfort Police Department crime prevention officer Leanne Bender. “It’s just one more way we can help keep seniors safe.”

Tuesday’s event provides an opportunity for seniors to get their car inspected before winter. The check up includes all the components of a standard safety check at an auto shop, including an inspection of the vehicle’s fluids, headlights, tires and undercarriage.
Senior care provider Home Instead will be on site to talk with seniors and provide safety information. Free refreshments will also be available.

Officer Bender noted that the event provides an opportunity for Lincoln-Way North students considering careers in the auto industry to interact with customers.
“The kids enjoy it,” said Tony Ogarek, an automotive instructor at Lincoln-Way North. “They get to sharpen their skills.”
Frankfort/Mokena TRIAD meets on the fourth Wednesday of every month to discuss public safety. The group is open to all senior citizens.
Car checks will take place from 9:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Lincoln-Way North High School. Seniors should call 815-469-9435 to schedule an appointment.
