10 Best and Worst Illinois Industries to Find Jobs

These industries are projected to have the most job gains and losses over the next five years.

If you're unemployed, know someone who is, or a college student deciding what to do for a living, particular industries will offer more job opportunities than others.

Crain's Chicago Business recently published a list of Illinois industries projected to see the largest number of job gains and losses over the next five years. In addition, comparisons were made to the peak years of the recession (2009-13) and how the sectors fared.

As you'll see, there are some interesting trends in the top 10 best industries to find work, especially number one. Education jobs -- at the local government level -- are predicted to make a comeback through 2018. During the recession, it was the third-largest sector in terms of job loss.

While several of the top 10 don't require degrees, each industry grew during the recession. More importantly, job seekers should be mindful of the industries to avoid.

Since job creation is one of the most important focal points for Illinoisans, not to mention in an election year, check out whether the state added or lost more during the month of May, according to the latest ADP Regional Employment Report.
