FHBA Donates $1500 to Lincolnway Special Recreation Association from Wine Walk Proceeds

The Frankfort Historic Business Association (FHBA) donated the $1500 proceeds from their first annual wine walk to the Lincolnway Special Recreation Association's disabled veterans fitness program.

The Frankfort Historic Business Association (FHBA) would like to thank all of the guests at our first annual Wined-ing through Historic Downtown Frankfort wine walk on September 30, 2012. The association sold out of all 200 tickets before the event, but with the encouragement of Frankfort Mayor Jim Holland, extended our sales. Over 230 people attended the walk, enjoying wine, appetizer and dessert tastes, along with live music, at 21 participating downtown merchants. The Village of Frankfort's September Sunset Music Series also added a festive feel to the gorgeous moonlit with live jazz filtering through the downtown from "The Faculty" performance on Breidert Green.

The FHBA is also very pleased to announce that, thanks to the overwhelming support for this new event, $1500 was raised for the Lincolnway Special Recreation Association's "Healthy Minds, Healthy Bodies" fitness program for disabled veterans, which provides a free one year membership to The Oaks fitness center, courtesy of Mokena Park District, along with 15 free personal training hours.

"The personal trainers are specifically trained to work with individuals with a disability," explained LWSRA's Executive Director Lana Graser. "This program is successful and open to all veterans with at least a 10% disability. Funds for the program were being depleted so this generous donation is very much appreciated," she added.

The $1500 will allow LWSRA to accept at least three new veterans into the program, Glaser shared.

The FHBA is a group of downtown merchants and business owners whose goal is to work together to promote Frankfort's downtown business district through events and consistent communication. Upcoming FHBA events include a Pre-Holiday Open House night on November 16 when participating merchants will be open until 9 p.m., as well as the very popular Christkindl and Cookie Walk weekend December 8 and 9 and Midnight Madness on December 14.
