Wellness Fair Offers Screenings, Presentations and Giveaways

The annual event will take place Saturday at Founders Community Center.

Frankfort residents looking to learn about healthy living are welcome at the 10th Annual Frankfort Wellness Fair this Saturday at Founders Community Center.

The fair is a joint effort from the Village of Frankfort, the Frankfort Park District and exclusive sponsor Franciscan St. James Health, which will provide all the medical services included at the event at no charge.

The organizers of the fair hope to promote awareness of healthy choices and preventative action in a comfortable atmosphere.

“A good community is a healthy community,” said Village Community Relations Manager Mary Canino.

The event typically draws residents from Tinley Park, Orland Park and other surrounding villages, as well as Frankfort, according to Jeff Lebioda, a senior brand specialist for Franciscan St. James.

Family physicians will be on-site throughout the day to answer health care questions and there will be free health screenings for everything from cholesterol to bone density.

A registered dietician will conduct a cooking demonstration with a surprise healthy ingredient. Several presenters will address a wide range of topics, including back and neck pain prevention and how to burn fat and boost metabolism.

Free flu shots and chair massages will be available at the fair, in addition to giveaways, raffle prizes and complimentary refreshments.

“It’s just a well-rounded event,” said Lebioda.

Also at the fair, Franciscan St. James will promote the launch of Franciscan Express Care, a new urgent care facility on La Grange Road that will open this summer.

The fair will take place from 8:30 a.m. to 12 p.m. Feb. 2. It is a free event.
