Walgreens Approved to Sell Beer and Wine

With Mariano's opening soon, the nearest Walgreens location requested approval of a liquor sales permit in order to remain competitive.

The Walgreens location at the intersection of Lincoln Highway and La Grange Road has been granted approval to sell beer and wine by the Frankfort Village Board of Trustees.

The board approved the special use permit as part of the unanimous consent agenda at Tuesday’s board meeting.

Walgreens sought the permit in order to remain competitive when Mariano’s Fresh Market opens on La Grange in March.

The approval was recommended by the village plan commission, which heard a presentation from the manager of the Walgreens location at its Jan. 10 meeting.

The store manager also requested the sale of hard liquor, but the board opted not approve hard liquor sales at the location. Walgreens can now devote up to 10 percent of its floor space to the sale of beer and wine and can sell alcoholic beverages as late as 1 a.m.

Neither of the other two Walgreens locations in the village have any kind of liquor license.
