Village Board Approves Purchase of New Police Vehicles and Radios

Trustees also approved the construction of a sidewalk along LaGrange Road from Colorado Avenue to St. Francis Road.

At the June 20 village board meeting, trustees unanimously approved the purchase of a Crown Victoria, an Explorer and an Expedition, for a total of $77,000 from , as previously budgeted.

In addition, will pay for a new Polaris Ranger 500 EFI utility vehicle, as well as emergency response command vehicle equipment and 20 800 MHZ radios. The radios will allow for countywide communication and ensure that all officers are on the same system, said police chief John Burica.

In keeping with continuing efforts to improve pedestrian and cyclist safety and accessibility within the village, trustees unanimously approved the low bid from Davis Concrete for $148,604.75 for the construction of a sidewalk on the north side of Colorado Avenue from LaGrange Road to and the west side of LaGrange Road from to St. Francis Road. Construction costs will be covered by a $180,000 grant from the Department of Commerce and Economic Opportunity.

Mayor Holland recommended creating two classifications within the E license. The E1 license would continue to apply to restaurants (no bar service or carry-outs). The new E2 license would also apply to that category of restaurant but limit the sale of alcoholic beverages to beer and margaritas only. The trustees unanimously approved the amendment within the consent agenda. The new E2 license will allow the Village to appropriately license  

Community Corner

  • Mosquito abatement sprayings have been delayed due to the heavy rains. Assistant village administrator Rob Piscia expects that spraying will take place within the next week, depending on the weather.
  • (10 a.m. to 2 p.m.) and Concerts on the Green (6:30 to 8 p.m.) are now every Sunday on Breidert Green. 
  • 4th of July festivities will take place at on Monday, July 4, beginning at 5:00 p.m. with fireworks at 9:00 p.m. This event is co-sponsored by the , the Village of Frankfort, the Frankfort Chamber of Commerce and the Kiwanis. 
  • The police department will host an AARP driver safety course on July 23 and 30. The class will cover defensive driving, rules of the road and dealing with changes in vision/hearing as you age.   • During public comments, Frankfort Fall Festival volunteer chairman Cheryl Howard invited area residents to get involved in Fall Fest. A volunteer sign up meeting takes place Wednesday, June 29, at 7 p.m. at the Chamber of Commerce office, 123 Kansas St. "There are hundreds of people who volunteer and help at the Fall Fest. I encourage people to get involved. It's a very rewarding way to get involved," Mayor Holland added.
