Update on Market Street Road Construction Project

The Frankfort Village Board of Trustees March 19 approved a variance to allow the opening of a personal training fitness facility in an industrial area.

The planned Market Street-LaGrange Road turning lane project is moving forward.

Rob Piscia, Frankfort's assistant village administrator, said two bids were opened March 19 for the Market Street right turn lane project. The cost of the project is estimated at $1.3 million, and the two bids came in close, he said. One was for $1.2 million and the other for just over $1.3 million. He said the proposals were being reviewed.

The project calls for the addition of right turn lanes from the northbound and southbound directions on LaGrange Road onto Market Street.

The addition of right turn lanes generally come under the purview of the Illinois Department of Transportation, said Piscia, but the village is taking the lead to speed up the process. With the opening of Mariano’s Fresh Market and ongoing development interest for the Market Street vicinity, the village is being proactive, he said.

If the project were left in the hands of IDOT, the right-lane additions wouldn't be installed for as far out as 10 years. "It's not even in their five-year plan," said Piscia.

A traffic signal is another facet of the overall Market Street construction project, which trustees approved earlier this month.

At the regular Village Board meeting March 18, trustees authorized a variance that allows the opening of a small fitness facility in an industrial area. Slim Gym, 754 Center Road, is expected to be open this spring. It's not a traditional fitness center, said Piscia. It's intended to focus on personal training sessions for six-to-seven clients at a time.
