Two former Summit Hill School Board candidates are officially out of the running for April’s election.

Objections against the candidate petitions filed by Mark Moylan and Joseph Figliulo were determined to be legitimate at an electoral board meeting Wednesday night.

The district electoral board, which includes Board President Mary Kenny, Secretary Denise Lenz and Board Member Sean William Doyle, also met Monday evening to hear the objections, which were put forth by community member Ted Westerberg.

Westerberg challenged the petitions on the grounds that he found them to be incomplete.

He declined to comment on the situation.

According to Kenny, if no one objects to an improperly filed petition, it qualifies as valid and the filer can continue their candidacy.

Kenny confirmed that Moylan did not fill out out the headings of his petition sheets and that Figliulo left the headings of his petition sheets incomplete. Figliulo also did not have the 50 signatures necessary to file for election.

“I just didn’t get it done correctly,” said Moylan.

Moylan said he is currently in the process of submitting the necessary papers to run as a write-in candidate in April.

“It doesn’t surprise me,” said Figliulo, of Westerberg’s objection.

As a first time candidate, Figiulo said that he found the petition paperwork to be confusing and duplicative.

With Moylan and Figiulo out of the race, five candidates remain to fill the four seats up for election in April. Mark Zilinskas, Richard Ward, Pamela Kohlbacher, Richard Marron and David Faber have all filed to run for school board as well.

Mary Kenny, Joy Murphy, Denise Lenz and Denise Wildeveld currently hold the available seats.

None of the current board members are running for re-election.
