State Treasurer Picks Three Area Romney Delegates

Jeff Arseneau of Frankfort, Shaun Murphy of Evergreen Park and Patrick E. Rea of Tinley Park were chosen to appear on the March 20 primary ballot.

This area's Republican delegates for presidential candidate Mitt Romney were named Wednesday by Illinois Treasurer Dan Rutherford, who is also Romney's state campaign chairman.

The delegates include:

  • Jeff Arseneau of Frankfort. Works as an agency field executive for State Farm Insurance, where he recruits, hires and trains insurance agents. He was the 2011 board chairman for the Chicago Southland Chamber of Commerce, is president of Providence Catholic High School Men’s Club in New Lenox and is on the advisory board for South Star Services in Chicago Heights.
  • Shaun Murphy of Evergreen Park. Was appointed to fill a vacant seat on the Evergreen Park Community High School District 231 Board of Education in 2009 and was elected to the board in 2011. Since 2008, Murphy has been the Worth Township Republican Committeeman.
  • Patrick E. Rea of Tinley Park. Is the village's clerk and a longtime Tinley resident. He is a retired brigadier general in the U.S. Army Reserve and has served in the United States, Asia and Europe. In 2009, he was appointed the Bremen Township Republican committeeman.

Alternates include Maribeth Churak of Evergreen Park, Sherri Griffith of Chicago and Tonia S. Members also of Chicago.

Delegates are committed to specific candidates and will appear on the March 20 primary ballot. A candidate needs 1,144 of 2,286 delegates to win the party's nomination.

"Taking part in the process of choosing the Republican nominee and, possibly, the next president of the United States is important to our democratic process," Rutherford stated in a press release.
