One-Legged Man Suing New Lenox Township, Claims Building Not Accessible

New Lenox Township has violated state and federal laws, according to a disabled man's lawsuit.

A man with one leg has filed a lawsuit alleging New Lenox Township has violated state and federal laws mandating that public buildings be accessible to the disabled.

The lawsuit describes the plaintiff, Charles Cissell, as an 82-year-old man with a "disability, to wit, an amputated leg," and says he is "confined to a wheelchair."

Cissell lives in the New Lenox Township Senior Housing Complex, the lawsuit said, and the township has failed to provide required handicapped accommodations.

Cissell's "attempts to obtain redress for these violations have continuously fallen on deaf ears for over 10 years, and these violations are continuous and ongoing and static in a manner that renders them a policy of" the township.

Cissell wants a judge to order the township top fix the alleged violations within 60 days and to pay him at least $45,000.
