Mayor Honors Outgoing Plan Commission Chairwoman Renae Goldie

After eight years on the Plan Commission, Goldie steps down.

Outgoing Plan Commission chairwoman Renae Goldie accepted a plaque of recognition and thanks from Mayor Jim Holland and trustees at the Village Board meeting Monday.

Holland praised Goldie, remarking that she was excellent in the position because she made people feel at ease, communicated well with developers and residents alike and held "ideas, concepts and values representing the people of our community."

"The Village has much to be proud of in terms of high-quality development projects that were brought to fruition during Renae's tenure," Holland said in his report.

Goldie's relationship to the area extends outside the Plan Commission; she teaches English at Lincoln-Way West High School. Although she's busy, Goldie told the board she would miss the position.

"Maybe not the first one or two Thursday evenings," she joked.

Goldie has been involved with the Plan Commission since she was an intern for the board straight out of high school. For the past six years, she's served as chairwoman. Goldie said she is confident the commission will continue to make the Village proud when Alicia Hanlon, a legal planner by trade, is sworn in as commissioner, adding that new chairman, Don Schwarz, will be good in his new role because he's been involved with the commission for six years and has a lot of passion.

Goldie suspects she'll turn up from time to time at Plan Commission meetings because she'll miss being involved, but the end of this term seemed to be a good time to step down.
