Lincoln Way Tea Party Weighs in on Romney

Members of the local conservative organization discussed the presidential candidate at a party event Thursday evening.

While many Lincoln-Way area residents spent Thursday night watching the vice presidential candidate debate, members of the Lincoln Way Tea Party gathered for an evening of political discourse with conservative activist and commentator William Kelly.

Kelly discussed his personal history as a candidate for various political offices and the state of the Illinois Republican Party. He also stressed the importance of local elections for Tea Party candidates.

After the event, Patch caught up with several local Tea Party members to gauge their opinion on presidential candidate Mitt Romney and the upcoming election. Read their responses below.

Dorothy Margraf, Monee

"He’s a better candidate than Obama, but I’ve had questions about him from the very beginning … He says he’s pro-life. His whole background is not pro-life."

Phillia Mitchell, Manhattan

“I just am very fed up with watching our country be destroyed. Being $16 trillion in debt, there’s no way we’re going to keep on this track and survive … [Romney] understands economics and I think he will be really good to get the country back on track fiscally.”

Robert Krueger, Frankfort

“He’s a family man. He’s educated. He’s a businessman. He’s made money. He knows how to do it.”
