Lawsuit: Former Will County Board President Misused Money From Golf Course He Owns

Joseph Mikan and the majority owners of Big Run Golf Club in Lockport were named in a lawsuit that claims they used corporate money from the course to buy cars and vacations.

A former Will County Board president has been named in a lawsuit alleging he and the owner of an Orland Park insurance company used money from a golf course they owned to pay for taxes, cars and vacations, according to a Chicago Tribune report.

Joseph Mikan, who was county board president from 2000 to 2004, is one of the owners of a corporation that runs Big Run Golf Club in Lockport. He owns more than 80 percent of the company along with his sister, Virginia Mikan; George Gee Jr., owner of Gee Insurance in Orland where Mikan now works; and Gee's son, Gregory, the article stated.

The lawsuit, filed in Will County by a Virginia man whose uncle was one of the course's original investors from the 1930s, alleges Mikan and the other majority owners live for free in houses on the golf course and used corporate money to buy property for themselves in Arizona, as well as cars for their personal use, according to the report.
