Frankfort Residents Came Together to Celebrate Earth-Arbor Day

Village of Frankfort wins Tree City USA Award from the National Arbor Foundation.

The annual Clean-Up Day Event in Frankfort was made more fun by combining the community tradition with one that also honored nature and the environment. More than 400 residents showed up on a chilly April 20 to plant flowers, trees and collect debris.

The Village of Frankfort officially welcomed volunteers at the staging area at the Public Works facility, 524 Center Road.

Mary Canino, community relations manager, said the day featured contributions from the U.S. Naval Sea Cadets/General Colin Powell Division and the Lincoln-Way ROTC.

In addition, the community's business community and service clubs were well represented along with plenty of youth groups. She noted that the Frankfort Chamber of Commerce was out in force along with Frankfort Lions Cub, Knights of Columbus from St. Anthony Parish, Hickory Creek Church and numerous scout troops.

Members of many of the community's homeowners organizations were on-hand as well. Canino said representatives from the Autumn Fields, Prestwick, Prairie Creek Townhome Association, Walnut Creek Townhome and Homeowner Associations and Autumn Ridge joined in the clean-up activities.

“Over the years, the community response and participation in this event has been very strong and positive. The active participation today for all our volunteers demonstrates their pride in our community,” commented the mayor.

“This year, once again, the National Arbor Day Foundation honored the Village of Frankfort with an award as a Tree City USA., and we are very proud that we were awarded the Governor’s Home Town Award for this event. We continue to be very proud of those accomplishments,” continued Holland.
