Frankfort Lawyer Will Run for County Board Seat

William Burfeind says the Will County Board needs to work on economic development that keeps existing businesses and encourages new ones.

A Frankfort lawyer declared his candidacy for the Will County Board on Tuesday, joining the Republican primary race for a District 2 seat.

William Burfeind, a village resident since 1986, said in his announcement that he understands the views and concerns of voters and would focus on bringing in more jobs and lowering taxes and fees. In order to do that, the board needs to retain existing businesses while attracting new ones, expanding the county's tax base, he said.

“I understand the process and grasp the urgency of committing time and purposeful action to attainment of constituent expectations," Burfeind said in his announcement, pointing to the experience he's gained from his legal career, which started in 1976.

In 2012, all county board members need to run for re-election  following the 2010 Census. Each new district will get two representatives, and voters will choose two candidates from each party in the March 20 primary election. Under the redrawn boundaries, District 2 now includes Frankfort, Green Garden, Manhattan and the parts of Tinley Park in Will County.
