Frankfort Progresses with its Emerald Ash Borer Management Program

Branch collection is available for residents.

The Emerald Ash Borer Management Plan in the Village of Frankfort is underway.

Trees in the parkways throughout the community that were classified in “poor” condition in the management plan have been marked and removed by either Village Public Works staff or private contractors.

As of July 8, new trees have been replanted in the parkway to complete the first phase of the removal/replacement program.  A total of 262 parkway trees were removed and replaced.  The village has 3,373 parkway ash trees, said Mary Canino, community relations manager.

The review of all ash trees continues through this summer. Trees that have deteriorated since the last review will be marked for removal with a green dot on the street side. Residents will receive a letter advising them of the removal and replacement. It is expected that tree removal and replacement will reoccur in late summer or early fall for these trees, according to a press release.

“It is important for our residents to remember to water the newly planted trees throughout the summer for maximum health.  Our public works department is working diligently to review all ash trees throughout the year and remove those that are in poor condition,” said Mayor Jim Holland.

Canino reported that "branch collection continues to be heavy through the summer with an estimated 1,488 branch stops during the month of June or 372 stops per week." The average is 256 stops per week.

“Branch collection is an important service for our residents, and we appreciate the cooperation and patience of our residents as our public works staff works to clear branches in the community,” Holland said.
