Why are you seeking office?

I want to ensure that my daughters receive the same or better quality education that I received from the Summit Hill School District as a child. Additionally, I have achieved many more things then I ever thought possible. I have a wonderful wife, great career and adopted four beautiful girls. Much of this iwould not be possible without my education, the foundation of which was laid at Summit Hill schools many years ago. I feel it is time that I pay this debt to my community back by serving as a school board member for the Summit Hill School District.

What sets you apart from the other candidates?

I believe that my experience and education in Management and Finance has taught me the critical thinking and root cause analysis skills needed to heto manage the district. These skills, teamed with the communication and team building skills of Rich Marron and Pam Kohlbacher's 30+ years of experience in education would be a valuable asset to the Summit Hill School District.

In you opinion, what are the primary challenges facing this district?

I believe the biggest challenge to the district is trying to provide an extensive set of academic and extra-curricular activities for the children in a fiscally sound manner for the tax payers of the district.

How will you address those challenges?

By working with all of the stakeholders within the district to create a multi-year plan to provide as many programs as posible in the most fiscally sound manner as possible. The board will strive to create an atmosphere where input is sought from interested parties without fear of retribution if the idea counters the boards opinion of the matter. The board room will be an environment where differing opinions can be shared in a respectful manner. While the board cannot please everyone, and it will have to make tough decisions that may even anger some constituents, it can attempt to create an environment that allows the community to bridge the gap and come to a consensus or at least an understanding.

If elected, what will be your philosophy as a board member?

I believe a School Board member should provide guidance and set the direction for the district, yet stay out of the day-to-day operations of the district. A board member should set an example for the district, act in a professional manner, and demand the same from the staff. Additionally, a board member should provide fiscal oversight for the district to ensure the districts financial resources and used in the most efficiently manner as possible. Finally, I believe the district should strive to provide an enriching slate of academic and extra-curricular programs for the children of the district.

Please add any other information pertinent to your campaign.

In addition to myself, I support the election of Pam Kohlbacher and Rich Marron to the Summit HillSchool Board. Together, we bring years of combined experience in the fields of accounting, finance, management, administration, contact negotiation/management and education. These are the core skill sets needed to address the district's current and future issues. While all of the districts challenges and issues will not be solved by our election, the experience will be put in place to put SH District 161 on the path to success.
