Why are you seeking office?

As a Board of Education member, I will be a good financial steward and advocate for the taxpayer. I plan to work closely with 157-C teachers and administrators, to provide them the tools they need to successfully educate our students. With three young children in the district, I have a vested interest in the quality of education that 157-C schools will provide.

What sets you apart from the other candidates?

I bring experience as a small business owner and president of a medical specialty group with three offices and nearly 40 employees. As vice-president of my homeowners association, services have improved within a balanced budget and without raising fees. Through a local teaching hospital, I enjoy training and mentoring medical students and residents.

In your opinion, what are the primary challenges facing this district?

Maintain a balanced budget without raising the tax levy.

Improve education quality despite record State budget deficits and cutbacks.

Retain local autonomy during implementation of the Common Core State Standards.

How will you address those challenges?

I will work tirelessly to keep a balanced District 157-C budget. Focusing expenses on essentials that have demonstrable benefits to education quality will enable the district to thrive without adding undue burden to the taxpayer. Contingency planning and alternate revenue sources to compensate for State budget shortfalls will keep the district solvent and education standards high. Freeing teachers to use their passion and talent for education, in the face of burgeoning Federal and State regulations, will be a priority.

If elected, what will be your philosophy as a board member?

Quality education, fiscal responsibility, local autonomy.
