Traffic Stop Results in Weapon, Pot Charges

Eduardo Ramos was issued notices to appear in court when police found pot and a police baton in his car.

An Olympia Fields man will appear in court after Frankfort police found pot and a weapon in his car.

Eduardo Ramos, 23, of the 900 block of Wingate Road in Olympia Fields, was issued notices to appear in court for unlawful use of a weapon and cannabis possession at 1:40 p.m. Jan. 15 at the intersection of Lincoln Highway and Locust Street. He was also cited for speeding and driving without insurance.

Frankfort police performed a traffic stop on Ramos after an officer noticed his car speeding in a construction zone.

While conducting the stop, the officer smelled burnt cannabis coming from inside the car, police report.

Ramos admitted to smoking pot earlier in the day and police found less than one gram of cannabis inside the car during the search.

While checking the car, the officer also found an expandable baton similar to those carried by police officers. Police batons cannot be in the possession of someone who is not an officer. Ramos said that the baton belonged to someone else.

He was cited and released on bond. His court date is Feb. 11.
