Three-Car Crash Caused by DUI

Richard H. Reinke, of Frankfort, faces DUI charges after police say he caused a three-car stoplight crash.

A Frankfort man faces multiple charges after police report that he caused a three-car crash while driving under the influence of alcohol.

Richard H. Reinke, 58, of the 300 block of N. Maple Street, was issued citations for failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident and driving under the influence of alcohol with a blood alcohol content above .08 at 7:59 p.m. Jan. 12 at the intersection of La Grange Road and Lincoln Highway.

Frankfort police were dispatched to the cross-street following reports of a crash.

Police reports state that a Honda Pilot driving on Lincoln had stopped at a traffic light, with an Acura MDX in line directly behind it. Behind the Acura, Reinke was driving a Ford F-150. He failed to stop at the light and crashed into the Acura, which then hit the Pilot.

None of the vehicles sustained heavy damage and no one was injured.

The drivers of the vehicles that were hit during the crash told police that Reinke smelled like alcohol.

Police report that Reinke’s speech was slurred and that there was a smell of alcohol on his breath.

Reinke failed field sobriety tests and was placed under arrest and released on bond. His court date is Feb. 1.
