Smoke Bandit Pulls Off Heist

About 1,800 cartons of cigarettes and smoking accessories were stolen from Ameen Discount Corp., 7954 W. Lincoln Hwy., in Frankfort, according to a report. Sheriff's deputies heard an alarm going off. After investigating, deputies found a shattered window and the rear door open. About 40 cases of the smoking products were reported missing.

Bad Day At The Gas Station

Jodi L. Lawlor, 42, of the 20100 block of South Frankfort Square Road in Frankfort, was charged with for criminal damage to property and battery, according to a report. Deputies were called to Speedway gas station, 19730 S. Harlem Ave., regarding a woman yelling profanities at patrons and the cashiers.

Western Union Scam

A 78-year-old Frankfort woman wired $2,500 to a man claiming to be her grandson, only to find out it was all a fraud, according to a report. The scammer claimed to in the Philippines at a wedding and needed money for a car rental. After sending $2,500 through Western Union, the woman received a call from the scammer called two days later asking for $2,300 more. The elderly woman was able to get in contact with her actual 20-year-old grandson, who told her he was not in the Philippines. When the scammer called again, the woman did not pick up the phone.
