Sheriff's Blotter: Staged Distraction Lets Thieves Rip Off Gas Station

FRIDAY, APRIL 13

Two Men Rob Lincoln Highway Speedway

Two men worked together to steal items at about 5 p.m. from the convenience store of the at 7218 W. Lincoln Hwy. The station manager told Will County Sheriff's deputies that one of the suspects came into the store and started a disturbance with customers, according to the sheriff's office report. The man yelled at the manager when she confronted him, then walked out, the report stated. As the manager followed the suspect out, another man came into the store and loaded the following items into a cloth bag:

  • three bottles of Tide detergent
  • a box of tampons
  • a bottle of Clorox bleach
  • six quarts of Pennzoil oil

The two men then fled the station in a red Chrysler Sebring.

A Purse Stolen From a Car ...

A woman reported her purse stolen from her car at about 3 p.m. as she was putting air into her front tire at the , 19730 S. Harlem Ave.

... And Another Purse Stolen From an Empty Chair

A woman reported her purse stolen at around noon at , 7818 W. Lincoln Hwy. According to the sheriff's report, the woman placed her purse in an empty seat next to her while she was eating and realized it had been taken as she went to leave.
