UPDATE: Frankfort Woman Killed in Car Crash in Crete

Joyce DiRutigliano, 80, died after a two-car accident Sunday afternoon that also injured her husband, Dominic, according to a Will County Sheriff's Office spokeswoman.

A Frankfort woman was killed and her husband injured after a two-car crash near Crete on Sunday, July 1.

Joyce DiRutigliano, 80, of the 20700 block of Hunt Club Drive, was declared dead by the Cook County medical examiner's office Sunday evening at , where she was brought after the accident at Exchange and Burville roads, said Kathy Hoffmeyer, a spokeswoman for the , which responded to the accident at around 3:15 p.m.

DiRutigliano's husband, Dominic, 85, suffered from fractured neck vertebrae and was brought to an area hospital, Hoffmeyer said. The driver of the other vehicle, a 61-year-old man from St. John, Ind., suffered from a broken shoulder and internal injuries, Hoffmeyer said. He also was taken to an area hospital, she added.

According to Hoffmeyer, Dominic DiRutigliano lost control of the 2004 GMC Envoy he was driving because of the slippery road conditions along the westbound lane of Exchange Road. The Envoy flipped sideways into the eastbound lane and was struck in the passenger-side door by the St. John man's 2008 Toyota 4Runner, Hoffmeyer said.

The driver of the 4Runner told sheriff's deputies he was traveling 40 to 45 mph and couldn't stop when he saw the Envoy in the roadway, Hoffmeyer added.

Visitation will be from 1 until 7 p.m. Sunday, July 8, at in Frankfort. A funeral service will be Monday, July 9, with chapel prayers at 9:15 a.m. at for a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. at Interment Assumption Cemetery in Glenwood.
