Report: Frankfort Doctor Sued for Fraud by Insurance Company
Blue Cross & Blue Shield's parent company is suing Dr. Cecilia Ibrahim, saying she allegedly submitted false claims for covered procedures, bilking the insurer out of more than $560,000, Crain's Chicago Business reports.
A Frankfort doctor is being sued by the parent company of Blue Cross & Blue Shield of Illinois for fraud, alleging she falsified the back-pain treatments she was providing, which cost the insurer more than $563,000, according to a report by Crain's Chicago Business.
In a suit filed in Cook County Circuit Court this month, Health Care Service Corp. claims , a internist, filed paperwork that said she treated patients with lower back pain with procedures covered by the insurer, the report stated. However, the suit accuses Ibrahim of actually performing an experimental procedure on these patients not covered by the insurance company, Crain's reported.

The suit alleges Ibrahim submitted almost 1,900 claims between March 2006 and October 2008 that stated she performed surgical decompression of a nerve on patients instead of the experimental intervertebral dynamics therapy, which is treatment the insurer claims actually happened, the report says.
Ibrahim and Chicago-based Blue Cross declined to comment to Crain's on the suit.
