Joliet Man Charged in Two Incidents With Mom

John R. Shouse, 36, of the 300 block of North Center Street in Joliet, was charged with criminal trespass, theft of services and aggravated assault in two related incidents. Frankfort Police officers were called to a house in the 300 block of Willow Street at about 8:25 a.m. Feb. 6 for a domestic disturbance, said Cmdr. Kevin Keegan. A taxi was waiting outside the house when officers arrived, and the cabbie said Shouse was driven there and hadn't paid yet, Keegan said. When officers found Shouse, which was where his mother lived, he told them that she owed him $500,000 to stimulate the economy, Keegan said, adding Shouse called her names and talked about Satan. Shouse waved his fists around, demanding money from his mother, 71, who said she feared for her safety, Keegan said.

Shouse was brought to police headquarters and charged but was brought to Franciscan St. James Hospital in Olympia Fields after saying he wasn't feeling well, Keegan said.

Shouse was charged with the theft of services because he couldn't pay for the taxi ride, and aggravating factor to the assault charge was because of his mother's age, Keegan said.

The next day, police received a report of a man matching Shouse's description looking for a car ride in the 110 block of Lincoln Highway, Keegan said. An officer went to Shouse's mother's home to look for him and saw a dark sports-utility vehicle drop Shouse off there, Keegan added. When he saw the officer, Shouse ran to a neighbor's house and began pounding on the door, Keegan said. As the officer approached, Shouse said he wasn't at his mother's house, Keegan said.

Shouse was brought to the police station and charged with trespassing because he had been given notice not to be on his mother's property, Keegan said. Shouse's court date is March 2.
