Piece of World Trade Center to Come to Frankfort

An 8-foot artifact from the 9/11 attacks will be part of Fall Festival parade thanks to the work by village's fire chief.

Thanks to work by the Frankfort Fire Protection District chief, a piece of the World Trade Center could be visiting the village next month.

Fire Chief Jim Grady said Tuesday he recently received approval from the Port Authority of New York-New Jersey to have an 8-foot steel piece from the World Trade Center to be a part of the Frankfort Fall Festival parade in September as part of the district's uniformed march to honor the 10th anniversary of the 9/11 attacks. 

After the parade, Grady said he hopes to have the piece displayed near the department's firefighter memorial at the .

As of Tuesday, Grady was still waiting to hear when the piece can be picked up and transported to Frankfort. He said he thought he would have an answer by Thursday.
