New Lenox Man Appears on DUI Charge Stemming From Fatal Wreck

The New Lenox man who survived a fiery crash and was charged with aggravated driving under the influence was in court Tuesday.

The New Lenox man charged with aggravated driving under the influence in connection with a fiery fatal crash appeared in court Tuesday morning for a brief hearing.

Judge Edward Burmila set 22-year-old Kevin Krohn's next court date for Jan. 24.

A passenger in a car driven by Krohn, 22-year-old Jake Stevens of Manhattan, was killed in an Aug. 25 crash in Frankfort Township, police said.

Stevens' mother, Kim Stevens, filed a wrongful death lawsuit against Krohn earlier this month.

Krohn was driving west on Steger Road near 104th Avenue when he lost control of the vehicle and collided with a retaining wall, tree and "large metal switching box," according to the lawsuit.

The car burst into flame and Stevens was killed, police said. Krohn was able to escape the vehicle but suffered an injury to his leg.
