New Lenox Cops Say Identity Thief Pulled Tax Scam

The IRS wanted a victimized New Lenox woman to pay back taxes.

A New Lenox woman alerted the police to an identity thief who left her on the hook for back taxes.

An officer met with the woman Friday morning in the 2400 block of Cattleman Drive and was told an "unknown person opened a fraudulent business account using her personal information and the IRS was requesting her to pay back taxes from the business," police said.

The crime was sent to the police department's investigations division for review.
