House Fire in Frankfort Square Causes Extensive Damage

Firefighters extinguished the blaze at an abandoned house Tuesday afternoon.

An abandoned house in Frankfort Square was damaged extensively in a house fire Tuesday afternoon.

The Frankfort Fire Protection District received reports of a fire at 2:38 p.m. Tuesday in the 8000 block of Woodvale Road, according to District Battalion Chief Nick Peters.

When firefighters arrived, they saw flames in the west ground floor window. The fire was contained to two rooms downstairs, although the rest of the house was subjected to smoke and heat damage. The two rooms where the fire spread were extensively damaged.

"It's pretty well gutted," Peters said.

The flames were extinguished in 45 minutes, but crews remained on site for three hours.

No one was present during the fire and there were no injuries as a result of the incident. The Lincoln-Way Area Fire Investigators are currently investigating the cause of the fire.
